Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services

Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services was established in 1879 and today we are Ireland’s largest specialist palliative care provider. We pride ourselves on providing quality and loving care for those with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care. This excellent person-centred care is provided both on-site in one of our truly special facilities, Harold’s Cross Hospice and Blackrock Hospices as well as in people’s own homes through our specialist palliative homecare teams on the road. In 2016 we provided specialist care to over 3,940 patients and residents across all our services, as well as delivering over 12,300 specialist palliative homecare visits. There are just over 600 staff and 300 volunteers who deliver this excellent service for patients and their families.

Why we are supporting Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services

Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services was voted as the BDO Staff Nominated Charity in memory of our colleague Eoin Fennessy (1983-2016). Eoin was a key member of our tax group and the wider BDO team. In 2010, Eoin was diagnosed with cancer which he fought with exceptional courage and dignity and through the tremendous care and facilities provided By Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services.

In memory of Eoin, we wanted to do something to help Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services continue to provide excellent care and services. Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services are bringing their specialist palliative care services to even more people in their own homes and developing 36 new state of the art single palliative care rooms in Harold’s Cross to ensure privacy, dignity and professional excellence at end of life.

Type of service Service Cost Description
Specialist palliative care Pulse Oximeter €400 €400 could provide a Pulse Oximeter for patients in our redevelopment in Harold’s Cross. Pulse oximeters are a tool that enable Nurses and Doctors to measure the oxygen saturation of a patient’s blood. Monitoring such as this is very important for the health and comfort of patients.
Specialist palliative care Family overnight couch €800 €800 will provide a specialist mobility chair that turns into an overnight couch. This means that family members and friends never need to leave a loved. We are looking to purchase 36 orthopaedic chairs - one for each of our new single rooms in our redevelopment in Harold’s Cross.
Specialist palliative care Specialised Bed €1,500 €1,500 could buy a Specialised Bed that is essential and will provide the maximum of comfort and care for our patients. Ensuring that each and every person in the in-patient unit has the support and comfort they need.
